  • Stock photo: This photo was taken at the close of one of my son’s high school cross country meets. Next to our course, this particular course is considered the most difficult in the circuit. Had to act quickly to capture this moment, as I was at some distance and several people were approaching behind these two girls. I really like this photo because of the sense of camaraderie demonstrated by these girls. I considered cloning out the safety pins visible on their shirts. This is where their identification is attached and torn off at the finish of the race. However, I have never seen one of the youth remove the safety pin prior to leaving. As such, I decided to leave the pins in. I think they add to the story. Also, some of what appears to be noise on the black clothing is actually due to dust. After finishing the race, many of the kids fall to the ground in exhaustion.

  • Stock photo: Captured this at my son’s state cross country meet, as the runners were lining up for the start of the race. I liked the framing and context provided by the runners’ arms and the patch of golf course. Despite being a world renowned photographer (LOL!), I doubt the officials would have held up the race for me. As such, had to act quickly. Was very pleased with the DOF placing emphasis on the shirt. Thought this would appeal to cross country fans; no offense intended towards avid golfers. ;-)

  • Stock photo: Captured this shot at one of my son’s high school cross country meets. The only restrooms available were two very nasty outdoor ones. Actually had almost as much fun watching people hurry out of them as I did watching the sporting event. LOL. Typically, the kids are very conscientious about picking up their trash. However, one boy, desperate to get away from the toilet area as quickly as possible, failed to retrieve his sports drink. Couldn’t resist taking a photo. I know it is rather unique subject matter, but hey, for some reason I liked the lines and shadow. I truly must be getting weirder as time goes by. ;-) Used selective color on this one to add a more dramatic touch. Unaltered photo available upon request.

  • Stock photo: This is a photo of my beloved dog, Theo, a shetland sheepdog. I know there are numerous dog photos on this site, but I felt this captured so well the intelligence, alertness and gentleness characteristic of the sheltie breed. Theo was a show prospect that, unfortunately for the wonderful breeder but luckily for me, went oversize and was in need of a good home. Theo has brought countless and immeasurable joy to my life! Goofy dog wouldn’t sign a model release though. ;-) Please note, slightly soft focus is intentional. I think it aids in retaining the gentle feel, while sharper focus on eyes emphasizes the intelligence and alertness. For every sale of this photo, $5 will be donated to an animal welfare orgainization. I know it isn’t much, but I try to do what I can for less fortunate animals.

  • Stock photo: Annually, my son’s 4-H club collects canned goods for the local food bank. In order to traverse to different parts of town, they rent a trolley style bus. I took this photo while waiting for some of the youth to return to the bus. In the process, one of the younger kid’s bag broke and my wonderful son was helping him to recollect the canned goods. Unfortunately, the trolley, even in park, created quite a bit of vibration and I also had to shoot through glass. From a mom’s viewpoint, I wish it had been crisper. From the artistic perspective, I really like how I hopefully managed to salvage the moment.

  • Stock photo: Photo with a ladybug that I tweaked in Adope Photoshop Elements. See so many of them against green and bright contrasting colors. Wanted to try something different with more of an Autumnal context and feel. Also, I wanted lighting as opposed to DOF to emphasize my subject. Guess you could say I was striving for an atypical ladybug photo.

  • Stock photo: I tend to avoid busy backgrounds but wanted to capture this dandelion the way it stood out to me amongst the everyday existence. DOF to make the dandelion stand out while still maintaining the context using a very blurred background. One of my shelties just happened to start up the steps as I snapped this shot. Guess the best I can describe it is as a visual commentary on the life of a simple little dandelion in my backyard just begging to be noticed.
